Episode 18 - Col. Sparky Matthews (USAF & US Space Force)

The Professionists Season 1 Episode 18

In episode 18, we chat with Col. Dr. Sparky Matthews! Col. Matthews is a veteran of the US Air Force and was the 1st Surgeon General of the US Space Force.  In addition to serving in a wide variety of medical and leadership roles, and his M.D., he also has masters degrees in both public health and national security strategy. During his service, he logged 1,113 flight hours in 26 different weapons systems, including a total of 197 combat hours and 42 combat support hours.

After retiring from the military, he joined the Honors College at Baylor University, in Waco Texas which is funnily enough, his alma mater. There, he serves as a clinical professor and mentor to  students seeking careers in medicine.

While there are many highlights to cover, we examine his journey through college,  medical school and the military. We will take a look at mentorship, and explore some of the leadership successes and failures (a recurring theme in all our interviews with those who have succeeded!) he encountered. Hopefully it provides you with some insights to apply in your own personal or professional journey!
